Section 02
Sabbath and the Seventh Day
I realize how important this issue is to Yasharal; as it should be.....the Shabath IS the sign of the covenant between us and Him (Shamwath/Exodus 31:13). No matter what our Shabath position is, this is the question that I have had to humbly ask myself, and that I am asking you now:
"How do we know TODAY what day is THE 7th day of the week as spoken of in creation week in Barashayath (Genesis) 1 & 2?"
Some say the day before Sunday, some say Sunday, and others say neither or another day of the Gregorian (modern) calendar week. I have told people in the past that the day before Sunday is the 7th day "because that is the day the Jews have always kept as the 7th day since creation." Well, that is a traditional answer based upon supposition, and not a scriptural answer. Yahwah is holding us accountable to diligently keep His muaydim (appointed times), including the Shabath, and He has said that in keeping the same we are not to add or take away from His words (scripture) (Dabarim/Deut. 4:2).
We are commanded to diligently keep His commandments, statutes, and judgments (His instructions for life - His thurah/torah), and if we are going to diligently keep them, does He give us a scriptural way to determine how we are to keep His appointed times at the time appointed? If there is no way apart from history, then history becomes the standard, not the word of Yahwah......If I am on a deserted island somewhere and I have never been shown a calendar going back to creation week (which none apparently exists) would I be able to keep His instructions for life in relation to reckoning the timing of the week, culminating in the 7th day Shabath, and His other appointed times strictly from His words? Does His creation witness to His appointed times?
May we humbly seek the spirit of truth (His Ruach) in this matter of the proper reckoning of His muaydim, and allow the word of Yahwah alone to reprove and instruct us in keeping His Muaydim according to His thurah (Law/Word).
Dabarim (Deuteronomy) 4:2
2 You shall not add to the word, which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Yahwah your Alahim, which I command you.
Scripture states that the word of Yahwah alone enables us to keep His commandments, and that we are not to add or take away from His words in keeping His commandments. History or tradition is not the method by which we reckon the timing of the muaydim, but strictly by the words that Yahwah has spoken out of His mouth. History or tradition can bear witness to His words, but if it does not bear witness to what the word of Yahwah commands then it is useless for instructing in righteousness.
